Delaware Water Gap Update
NJOA and other groups are still opposing the campaign from a minority to change the designation of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area to a National Park which will restrict current recreational and management activities. (see “IT AIN’T OVER TILL ITS OVER!” posted on this website earlier). https://www.njoutdooralliance.org/2024/delaware-water-gap-park-and-preserve-plan-2/ As reported, this would require federal legislation and thus far our Federal Representatives in the House, local to the area, have opposed the plan. Our Senators have yet to take a position.
In order to support this opposition, our State legislators, Senators Parker Space and Douglass Steinhardt have introduced SR93 which opposes the redesignation. On the Assembly side, Michael Inganamort, Fawn Fantasia and John Dimaio have introduced the companion resolution AR133.
SR93 has been assigned to the Senate Environment and Energy Committee and AR133 has been assigned to the Assembly Tourism, Gaming and the Arts Committee.
Now is the time to contact these two committee chairs and their members to request they schedule these two resolutions for consideration and approval in order to move them forward.
I am in favor of SR93. I respectfully request that you post this resolution for positive consideration and passage fromSenate Environment and Energy Committee. I do not support redesignation of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area to a national park. Redesignation will result in a loss of recreation and impede the management of deer and bears.
